межбанковская электронная система передачи информации и совершения платежей (СВИФТ); основана в 1973 г. в Брюсселе (начала операции в 1977 г.) для создания альтернативы почтовому и телеграфному методу пересылки платежных инструкций банкам-корреспондентам; некоммерческая кооперативная организация, которая принадлежит свыше 2 тыс. банкам из более чем 50 стран; представляет собой систему электронной передачи сообщений-инструкций (авизо) о платежах; собственно перевод средств производится через национальные платежные системы; с 1988 г. к системе присоединились фирмы по торговле ценными бумагами для ускорения расчетов по сделкам.
